Antonelli leading the World Championship
Just over a hundred days ago, Lando Norris celebrated his first world title. Now the reigning champion is only sixth with 15 points, a “victim” of a McLaren that didn’t approach the new regulations perfectly but, after Oscar Piastri’s podium in Suzuka, promises to return to the top. Of course, the gap to Mercedes is high, and at the moment in Brackley there’s a driver who succeeds at everything. It’s Kimi Antonelli, leader of the championship after victories in China and Japan.
Faced with the growth of the Bolognese driver, Norris takes his hat off. According to the Briton, Mercedes has done a great job with #12, who, however, must now demonstrate that he can withstand the pressure of the leader. And Norris himself knows how difficult this management can be.
Norris’s words
“From the first to the second year, a driver makes a big leap forward. In every area, he feels more at ease. Moreover, Mercedes has always seemed like a very good team at protecting its drivers, taking care of them, and defending them when needed: they have always done a good job from this point of view“, explained the world champion. “Kimi also seems like a down-to-earth guy who dedicates a lot to his work, and that’s positive. In his second year, he’s already fighting for the championship, I think that shows how good he is“.
“Now he has the chance to fight for poles, victories, and the title. He has a big challenge ahead of him, but at the moment he seems very capable. I’m really excited to see how he’ll do“, he added.
