MotoGP, Ducati favorite for 2027
Last week, two very important days of testing the new 850cc MotoGP bikes took place at Mugello, and Ducati immediately stole the show. The Borgo Panigale factory took the absolute best time with Nicolò Bulega, who was already less than two seconds from the 2026 pole position of Marco Bezzecchi.
Clearly these are only the initial tests on the bikes featured in the new regulations effective from 2027, so times and hierarchies are relatively valid. Greater importance is given to the first impressions of the riders who participated in the two days at the Scarperia circuit. Among them was Pol Espargaró: the KTM test rider suggested that Ducati will start as the favorite even in the new era of MotoGP.
Espargaró’s words about Ducati
“Some manufacturers will start faster than others, but when everyone is more or less at the same level, maybe already from the second year, the competition will be very tight“, these are the words of the Spaniard. “It’s easy to think that Ducati will be crazy fast. It will be fast from day one because it has all the information coming from Superbike, and after all the 850cc is a kind of Superbike, it doesn’t differ much“.

“Ducati will have a certain advantage, especially regarding tire management, both in the race and in qualifying“, he added. “It has a lot of information that other manufacturers, who do not participate in the Superbike World Championship, do not have“.
The reduction in displacement will not be the only major change in 2027, which will be a revolutionary year in every aspect, including the use of biofuels, the downsizing of aerodynamic surfaces, and the abolition of lowering devices. The era of Michelin will also end in MotoGP and the era of Pirelli will begin, a supplier with whom Ducati, Honda, and Yamaha already work in Superbike.
