The great former member is now at the helm of Red Bull
The first weekend in Australia for Red Bull was a mix of highs and lows, although considering the premises of a debutant as an engine manufacturer, the glass is half full. Isack Hadjar was the fastest in Qualifying behind the Mercedes, Max Verstappen climbed back from the back of the grid to a final sixth place, and Arvid Lindblad scored his first F1 points on his debut with Racing Bulls. Counterbalancing this good balance is Hadjar’s technical DNF in the race and Verstappen’s mysterious off-track excursion in Qualifying.
In any case, team principal Laurent Mekies is convinced that there are practically no limits to how much developments can change the face of the standings: “Mercedes has a great advantage, but through developments we can catch them – said Mekies in an interview given to the Corriere dello Sport – the season has just started and I also believe that it is not necessary to intervene on the ratios between electric power and thermal power after only two races, it would be impulsive, at least 4-5 races are needed to make a more considered decision.”

In addition to Mercedes, Red Bull must also chase an excellent Ferrari: “We beat them in qualifying, but they were faster in the race. They are clearly the second force, they have done a great job on the car and on the power unit, a strong Ferrari is good news for our sport and a great motivation for us who want to catch them.”
