The rebirth of Martin
After a very complicated 2025 in terms of injuries and also psychologically, Jorge Martin in this championship seems to have been reborn and has already returned to victory in the Sprint and the Sunday race. And the standings do not lie, since Martin is just one point behind his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, the world championship leader. Massimo Rivola’s decision to hold firm mid-last year, when the Spaniard had announced his intention to leave Aprilia at the end of the year, is paying off not only for the team but also for the rider himself – evidently not so far-sighted twelve months ago.

Yamaha and double the salary
While waiting for the official announcements, which all await the definition of the MotoGP Concorde Pact, it is now well known that Jorge Martin has chosen to join Yamaha starting from 2027. From next year there will be a new regulatory regime, but the decision is undoubtedly surprising since the Iwata factory seems to have been struggling in recent years despite having a world champion like Fabio Quartararo.
Massimo Rivola did not hide from the Corriere della Sera the separation from his rider: “Jorge made his choice a long time ago“, emphasizing that the decision was Martin’s.
In the podcast of journalist Nico Abad, with the participation of Diego Lacave, they actually talked about Martin’s arrival at Yamaha: “Jorge has a confidentiality agreement and cannot talk about anything. What Martin wanted is the 4 million euros per year that Yamaha will pay him. Now at Aprilia he will earn 1 or at most 2 million”.
At this stage of his career, with a world championship already won in 2024 and at 28 years old, Jorge Martin has therefore decided to monetize his results. And maybe he will bring the number 1 on the fairing to his new team, as already happened at Aprilia…
