Mugello, Marquez is here
Marc Marquez did everything to be at Mugello, and he succeeded. The nine-time world champion passed the medical tests by Dr. Angel Charte, MotoGP doctor, and will participate in the free practice sessions at the Scarperia circuit.
A quick recovery, then, for a rider who has learned to live with aches and injuries despite himself. The latest, sustained in the Le Mans Sprint, caused him a fracture of the fifth metatarsal. Operated on in Spain on his right foot, Marquez also underwent a (already scheduled) surgery on his right shoulder to fix a screw out of place that was touching the radial nerve and preventing him from performing at 100%. Now he is ready to start again but knows it will take time to return to the top.
Marquez’s words
“If I am here it is because I feel able to complete the whole weekend. Not at full intensity, obviously, I have to take it step by step“, this is his comment to the media, including FormulaPassion. Marquez, who appeared to journalists with a brace on his right foot, is clear about the effort required from his body: “I am not worried about the foot, it is a minor issue that will not limit me, but the right shoulder requires time, because that screw was touching the nerve, and this affected some muscles. We evaluated with the doctors that it is the right time to get back on the bike, but with the right mindset. Obviously, the race is the race, there is always risk, but we will see if during the weekend I will be able to adapt properly to the different sensations I will feel“.
“During the surgery they did not have to cut the muscle, but they removed two screws and a bone fragment from an old injury“, he added. “They had planned to remove only one screw, but when they opened up, the damage was greater than expected“.
