Without Marquez everything changes, for real
The crash of Marc Marquez on the last lap of the Le Mans Sprint had a chain reaction on the rest of the French weekend. The reigning world champion in fact suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the right foot and will have to undergo surgery. He will miss both tomorrow’s GP and the entire weekend next week in Barcelona, his home race. But his absence will have a very concrete impact on the starting grid of the French Grand Prix: all the riders who were behind Marquez will gain one position.
The second grid spot, the one from which #93 was supposed to start, will therefore not be left empty. Marco Bezzecchi will start in his place, while the most significant gain is perhaps that of Fabio Di Giannantonio, who due to Marquez’s absence is promoted from the second to the first row. Obviously, all the other riders also gain one position with the only exception of Francesco Bagnaia, who took pole position this morning in qualifying, who will occupy the same starting position he had in the Sprint.
