Between past and present
Vitantonio Liuzzi is not only a former Formula 1 driver, but also an FIA steward who in recent years has often found himself ‘refereeing’ Grand Prix as part of the race stewards panel. For this reason, his opinion when talking about this contemporary era of F1 carries a different weight compared to many of his former colleagues: Liuzzi, in fact, thanks to his role in the federation, is still involved in the present of the Circus.

Less ‘wild’ spectacle
“This is definitely an F1 different from the past – Liuzzi told our microphones, not so much contesting the lack of spectacle in today’s Grand Prix, but rather a certain lack of authenticity – there are always exciting races, even if a bit more artificial compared to those of the past thanks to all these technological ‘tricks’ of the power unit that make everything a bit more artificial and less ‘racing’”.

“Personally I like this F1 less compared to the one of my times, which was a bit more ‘wild’ – the former Locorotondo driver added – back then you basically had to be always at 110% on braking, cornering, on the throttle, with overtakes more on the edge. Now everything is very different, but it remains an exciting F1. I don’t know how fun it is for the drivers compared to the one I drove, but it still remains the pinnacle of motorsport”, he concluded.
