Jos Verstappen does not expect major changes
In a long interview given to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Jos Verstappen – speaking about the criticism from his son Max regarding the regulations – explained: “The F1 leadership really listens to him, I am convinced of it. And it is possible that they will change some small things in the regulations for this year, but they won’t be aspects that make the difference. I hope they can make major changes for 2027 or 2028″.

Jos Verstappen is however aware that it will not be easy to modify the current situation, given that those in front will try to build a wall: “Obviously it is also a political game, changes are not always easy to implement. Toto Wolff and Mercedes will want to keep these regulations for as long as possible. They have invested a lot of time and money and have a clear advantage, for example in terms of knowledge, compared to the customer teams. This is their right and they can benefit from it”.
In recent days, Mercedes has opened up to some changes, more specifically to a lesser influence of energy management in qualifying. It is easy to think that for deeper changes, the Silver Arrows will try to oppose in every way, to defend their position of advantage at this start of the season.

Jos isn’t having fun with the new F1 either
Not only Max, but also Jos Verstappen does not like this new course of F1: “When I watch certain sessions and hear that they have to lift their foot off the accelerator, it’s hard to get excited. Two weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night to watch free practice in China and I turned off the television after 15 minutes and went back to sleep. I had never done that before and that probably means something”.
