Necessary measure for changes on the PUs
In 2027 the GPs will last a few laps less because due to the new rules regarding power units – the ratio between thermal and electric power will be 58 to 42 percentage points – it is necessary to resort to this measure to avoid seeing cars dramatically slow or even stopped in the last laps.
The change in the ratio with an increase in the role of the thermal part entails a higher fuel consumption and the teams are not able to redesign the cars from scratch to provide sufficiently large tanks.
According to the magazine AutoRacer all teams have agreed on this solution which solves this problem at its root by shortening the race distances. Obviously, this novelty will not affect the Monaco GP whose race distance is already well below 305km as it stands at about 260 km.

Obviously, it will then be all to decipher if in 2028 the usual 305km race distance will return. Meanwhile, in 2027 the races will last slightly less, then we will see.
