The Maranello Team had to win immediately
Ferrari in Miami presented itself with a deeply renewed SF-26, but the verdict of the GP in Florida was not very generous towards the Maranello Team. Charles Leclerc, in fact, fought tooth and nail not to leave the podium, but even leaving aside the generous spin on the last lap, the overall picture of Sunday saw Ferrari in the role of the third force with the uncertainty related to what kind of race Verstappen would have had without the spin at the start.
Johnny Herbert stated that from his point of view there might be some frustration at Ferrari at the moment because a ‘bang’ start to the World Championship did not materialize as the Team had managed, for example, in 2022: “At the start of the season, Ferrari seemed strong – the words of the former driver reached by Jackpot City Casino – there were several weekends where the SF-26 was fast from the first sessions. It showed its cards a little earlier than everyone else, but after the first developments the rivals responded and now basically Ferrari no longer seems a threat.”
“It is a frustrating situation – Herbert added – once again, this shows that the necessary ingredients from an engineering point of view are not quite at the same level as those of the other teams, especially McLaren. They seem always able to improve compared to how they started. Ferrari’s development, on the other hand, is always slower or less effective.”
Suffering in Canada?
In Canada on paper the SF-26 should suffer due to the deficit it pays compared to rivals in terms of power unit. Then the ADUO verdict will arrive allowing Ferrari to intervene on the engine.
