When talking about Spa-Francorchamps, many fans associate the name of the famous Belgian circuit not only with the high-speed corners like Eau Rouge-Raidillon, but also with Michael Schumacher. The reasons, in fact, are several: it was here, in 1992, that the German achieved his first Formula 1 victory, then went on to secure five more wins between the ’90s and 2000 (in 1995, starting from 16th on the grid, and repeating in 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002). Six in total, which constitute the record number of wins by a driver on this track, where there were also incidents that could have led the ‘Kaiser’ to increase his record.

The potential 8 wins
In 1994, for example, he initially climbed to the top step of the podium, only to be disqualified later for excessive wear of the car’s floor. In 1998, as race leader, he rear-ended Coulthard during lapping after the Scot suddenly slowed down under the downpour, with the Ferrari driver almost coming to blows with the McLaren driver once back in the pits.

Watch out for Hamilton
This is Schumacher’s record, in the top 3 at Spa on nine occasions, but at the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix there could be a driver able to match him in this special ranking: Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, who shares the number of titles with Schumacher, has achieved five wins in Belgium, exactly like his idol Ayrton Senna. Winner for the first time in 2010, ‘Sir Lewis’ repeated in 2016, 2018, 2020 and in 2024. In the latter case, actually, the former Mercedes driver won following the disqualification of George Russell for the car’s irregular minimum weight. Yet, Hamilton also crossed the finish line first on another occasion. In 2008, in fact, he received a 25-second penalty after the race for overtaking Raikkonen; in that case, to take advantage of the Finnish driver’s slipstream, Hamilton cut the last chicane of the track.
