Hamilton’s problems
On the sidelines of FP2 at Monza, Lewis Hamilton did not hide some disappointment about the afternoon session, which ended in fifth place four and a half tenths behind leader Russell (Mercedes). In particular, the English champion had highlighted concern about straight-line speed, even suggesting some non-optimal aspect related to deployment.

Work during the night
In the pits and in Maranello, it was a night of work, trying to improve the package available to the drivers. Hamilton explained yesterday to the microphones of F1TV: “The long runs didn’t go badly, just lacked a bit of rhythm. A bit was missing due to straight-line speed and a bit because of the slipstream, since I basically ran alone. Mercedes, as always, is very fast on the straights and so we have work to do overnight to improve this aspect and find a better balance“.

And he continued: “It will be a tight and very fought battle. We will face very, very competitive McLaren and Mercedes. Every weekend Mercedes is extremely fast. It will be tough but tonight we will give our best to see if we can get something. I mean, pole is the ultimate dream. Tonight will require a lot of work to understand if we made any mistakes and if there are aspects to improve. Being in the right place at the right time on this track will help us a lot,” Hamilton concluded.
