F1 Madrid, the Free Practice 3 report
Kimi Antonelli confirms his great form and finishes on top also in the third free practice session at the Madrid circuit. The championship leader outclasses all the competition with a time of 1:32.797, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (+0.166) and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri (+0.166), the only ones to go under 1:33.
On a circuit where maximum confidence is needed to best interpret every corner while avoiding the walls, it is no surprise that Antonelli is the best: rather impressive is the seven-tenths gap to George Russell, but it should be noted that this morning the British driver also found a lot of traffic in his time attacks. Looking ahead to qualifying, Q1 will be a challenge for everyone, with 22 drivers and walls very close.
For Ferrari it is a morning of two faces: Leclerc is second and confirms an SF-26 that starts as the second force, while Lewis Hamilton crashes into the wall at the last corner after 22 minutes. A bad mistake for the Englishman, who after a great T2 overbrakes and fails to avoid the impact with the barriers, causing a red flag and a 25-minute delay to the entire program. He will go into qualifying with fewer certainties than the competition but with renewed confidence from the ADUO-2, which allows the Englishman a more efficient power delivery over the lap.
McLaren steps up, with Lando Norris returning to the top after yesterday’s problems and a lively Piastri again. Max Verstappen closes the top 5 ahead of Russell, Lawson, Hülkenberg, Hamilton, and Bortoleto.

Bad accident at the end for Oliver Bearman in the section between turn 10 and turn 11. Serious damage to the left rear suspension: considering the accident happened only two hours before Qualifying, the Haas driver risks not participating in Q1 and, therefore, could start last.
