And luckily he was coming back from a serious injury. It’s clear that Marco Bezzecchi was very eager to return to riding a MotoGP after the crashes at Assen and Sachsenring: the Romagna rider sets an incredible 1:56.280 in the Silverstone Qualifying, achieving the best time and shattering the track record by almost a second.

Bezzecchi does a great job on track, not pushing his body too hard and stopping at the pits after the first 25 minutes of track action due to pain. Returning to action at the end of the session, Bez signs the best time right at the last moment thanks to a terrifying T4. Obviously exhausted, number 72 receives a warm welcome in the pits from a team that has always supported him during his recovery.

Bezzecchi is outstanding, then, but Aprilia is going very strong. Four bikes from the Noale factory occupy the top-5, with Raul Fernandez second by three tenths, Jorge Martin fourth exactly half a second behind, and Ai Ogura fifth.
Only Fabio Di Giannantonio rebels against the predictable dominance of the RS-GP through Silverstone’s fast corners: the Roman is third (+0.398) and once again the best Ducati at the start of the weekend. Marc Marquez starts with sixth place, Alex follows 17 thousandths behind.

Also in the top-10 are Joan Mir, Jack Miller, and Pedro Acosta (who crashed at the end); Francesco Bagnaia will have to come back from Q1, 13th with a huge gap of 1.4 seconds. “Pecco” also ends the session in the gravel due to a front-end closure at Brooklands: he would probably have finished among the top ten.

MotoGP returns to the track tomorrow at 12:10 with FP2, followed by Qualifying (Q1 at 12:50, Q2 at 13:15), while the Sprint will start at 17:00. On Sunday, the GP will start at 14:00. Here are all the times and TV information.
