MotoGP France, Qualifying Report
What a show at Le Mans! One of the most fiercely contested Qualifying sessions ever ends with the best time by Francesco Bagnaia, returning to pole position after the Malaysian GP last October. “Pecco” stops the clock at 1:29.634, beating Marc Marquez by 12 thousandths and Marco Bezzecchi by 23 thousandths. Is it over? No, because fourth – Fabio Di Giannantonio – finishes 65 thousandths behind, and in the last time attack he even had the chance for pole, only to make a bad T4.

And to think that Bagnaia was complaining at the start of Q2 about problems with the bike, to the point of asking the box if they had touched the GP26’s lowering device. “Pecco”, at his 28th MotoGP pole, was perhaps also worried by Marquez’s stunning lap in Q1: the Spaniard’s entry into Q2 was nothing short of forceful, with a track record (1:29.288). A time that would have crushed the competition in the final quarter-hour, but the nine-time world champion was unable to repeat it and had to yield to his teammate.
Good P3 for the World Championship leader Bezzecchi, who puts two tenths between himself and teammate Jorge Martin. Also noteworthy is the performance of Fabio Quartararo, in the second row with Di Giannantonio and Pedro Acosta, who gets more than the maximum from the M1. Alex Marquez disappoints, tenth and crashed at the end, while Johann Zarco returns to the pack, 11th after yesterday’s breakthrough.
