F1 Canada, the GP report
Now this curly-haired boy with dreaming eyes really believes it. Kimi Antonelli is no longer a surprise, he hasn’t been for a while, and with the triumph at the Montreal GP he scores his fourth consecutive F1 victory. The performance of the Bolognese driver was stunning, he got off to a great start and fought on equal terms with George Russell, with whom he engaged in an intense duel for 30 laps: Kimi was his shadow and ready to capitalize on every mistake of the Brit, who could never drive calmly. Antonelli couldn’t either, who overtook Russell on lap 22 but lost the position two laps later after a slip at the hairpin. The Mercedes pit wall also got involved, immediately asking the Bolognese to give back the position even though he was forced off track at the chicane before the finish line, while ahead at the apex. Russell, favored in this moment, was however targeted by bad luck when a technical problem forced him out of the GP on lap 30. A knockout that cleared the way for Antonelli, who still showed a better pace than his teammate, and above all projected the Italian to +43 in the World Championship.
