Alonso, closer to staying at Aston Martin
“I have a contract, I will not change team“. With these few words spoken during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Fernando Alonso clarified his future. At the moment, the most concrete scenario is staying at Aston Martin, with the only real alternative being a possible retirement at the end of the season.

Strengthening this perspective were also the statements of Flavio Briatore. Alonso’s former manager and current executive consultant of Alpine explained that the two-time world champion is satisfied with the Aston Martin project and that, at present, there are no grounds for a new transfer.

“Fernando races for Aston Martin, and it seems that the team has made a good step forward compared to before with the updates in Hungary. He is quite happy to drive for Aston Martin“, these are Briatore’s words about Alonso.
“For the moment, there is nothing to say about it. Fernando is an Aston Martin driver and, until the end of the season, he will remain an Aston Martin driver“.

Aston Martin updates could convince Alonso
What will influence Alonso’s future at Aston Martin will mainly be the technical progress of the AMR26. The updates introduced at the Hungaroring represent only the first part of the development plan planned by the Silverstone team.
The program also includes the new power unit, tested yesterday for the first time in a filming day at the Hungaroring circuit. If the aerodynamic developments and the new engine guarantee a clear improvement in performance, Aston Martin could offer Alonso the guarantees necessary to continue his adventure with the team even beyond 2026.
