In 2010, history intersected in Sweden: Ford and Geely met in the context of the sale of Volvo, a transition that allowed the Chinese company to acquire the brand. That confrontation paved the way for a relationship built on trust, observing industrial and positioning choices that convinced Ford of the partner’s solidity. Today, 16 years later, the collaboration takes a more concrete form: Ford and Geely ally in Spain to produce new vehicles at the Valencia plant.

Ford, agreement with Geely
The framework of the operation is the same Spanish plant, linked to an iconic past: the Valencia factory was already operational in 1976, when it served to assemble the first Ford Fiesta. Now, the joint venture provides for multi-energy production through a structure in which the American component reaches 66% and the Chinese component 34%. The Kuga will continue to be produced at the plant. In this scenario, the factory is not only maintained, but reconfigured to support the evolution of the range and the energy transition.
Agreement for production in Valencia
Starting in 2028, Valencia is expected to become the production heart of a new phase for both brands: a new multi-energy Ford crossover, the new generation of the 4×4 Bronco, and two electric SUVs from Geely. The goal, in the words of Ford of Europe President Jim Baumbick and Geely Auto Vice President Alex Nan, is a clear model: one team, one factory, two brands, and 5 models. Ford aims to strengthen its product offensive in Europe with further innovations until 2029, while Geely accelerates its expansion in the Old Continent with a strategy focused on quality, collaborative development, and solutions designed for Europe.
