The Sketch Body project by Ferrari celebrates the meeting between the two extremes of the creative process: intuition and execution. On one side, there is the first gesture, the one that arises almost without warning: a quick stroke that flows on the paper and captures an idea still free from the constraints of matter. On the other side, there is the mastery of doing: the precision of engineering, manufacturing excellence, and artisanal knowledge that transform intuition into a concrete presence.
Ferrari Sketch Body
In this phase, the Ferrari Collectibles project finds a new way to interpret itself. In fact, after the Components, the Red Pieces, and the Drivers’ Pieces more closely linked to the racing world, Sketch Body shifts the focus towards a more explicitly artistic dimension. No longer just fragments of a car, but surfaces that tell the thought that generated them, in a sense objects that not only preserve but reinterpret and transform.
New canvases for works of art
Inspired by the 812 Competizione Tailor Made, Sketch Body takes hoods or dorsal panels away from their original function to become a three-dimensional canvas, a surface capable of hosting the sketch that guided their creation. “In Sketch Body the surface transforms into a narrative space: a canvas where the stroke inserts and expands, following the curves, accompanying the tensions of the volumes, dialoguing with light and matter,” commented Flavio Manzoni. Because the excellence of a car from the Maranello house is extremely versatile.
