Hamilton ahead of everyone in Free Practice 2
Lewis Hamilton was the main protagonist of the second free practice session in Hungary. The British driver put Ferrari at the top of the time sheets, setting a lap that allowed him to precede Charles Leclerc and confirm the speed of the SF-26 on the Hungarian track.

In addition to the single-lap performance, Hamilton showed consistent pace, although Ferrari’s race simulations showed good but slightly less encouraging results. The SF-26 appeared stable and competitive even with a high fuel load, but at least Kimi Antonelli was on par with the Red cars. Hamilton knows this and speaks of “aspects to improve”, aware that track position and qualifying performance will, however, be decisive.

“Overall it was a positive day: the conditions were quite challenging, with the wind making things a bit more complicated and a rather bumpy track in some sections,” this was Hamilton’s comment after free practice in Hungary.

“The car performed better in the second session and we made good progress between sessions, although there are still some aspects we need to improve. Tonight we will analyze all the data, continue to work on the car’s balance and hope to find a bit more performance for tomorrow”.
Friday’s best time strengthens the ambitions of the seven-time world champion, who seems to have found an ever-increasing feeling with Ferrari. Qualifying and the race, however, will tell if these signs can turn into a positive result at the Hungaroring. The Maranello Scuderia had also achieved two one-two finishes on Friday in Monte-Carlo, only to be outsmarted by Antonelli in both qualifying and the race.
