A whirlwind of seats
Carlo Pernat doesn’t mince words, as he has always done. We caught up with the Genoese manager before the Austin race for an exclusive chat with FormulaPassion.it about the crazy rider market of this MotoGP and more, and as always, his reflections on what is happening in the paddock in these months were interesting and sharp. Starting from the strangeness of a season that sees practically half the grid racing as separated at home, even if the official team announcements on new signings for 2027 have not yet arrived given that the very delicate negotiation with Liberty Media for the renewal of the ‘Concorde Agreement’ in its MotoGP version is underway.

“The bulk was done before the championship, which is something I had never seen in my life – Pernat observed – there is a series of separated at home that is frightening. Practically all the big names are: Quartararo will go to Honda, Bagnaia to Aprilia, Martin in Yamaha, Alex Marquez in KTM, Pedro Acosta in Ducati…it’s as if you have a marriage that was over from the start and you don’t even know if you did well or poorly to end it“. Pernat’s reference, in this case, is to the regulatory upheaval that will take place in 2027 and which could significantly reshuffle the values on the field among the different bikes.
Bagnaia can smile and Diggia…
Regarding one in particular of these early transfers, however, Pernat certainly gave his verdict: “Bagnaia, all things considered, did well [to go to Aprilia], as a man, because at Ducati the atmosphere is now very heavy, it’s over“. In the days following the Texan race, among other things, rumors emerged – via Spanish media – about what could be the type of agreement that will link the three-time world champion to the Noale-based manufacturer.

The one who is in the balance and still knows nothing about his future is instead Fabio Di Giannantonio, an excellent protagonist of this start of the season but still uncertain for 2026: “Diggia was left out of the game of the top riders who all got settled immediately – Pernat commented to FormulaPassion.it – unfortunately that’s how it went, but it’s also a normal thing. For the future, it will also depend a lot on him. This will be an important year: he is an outsider who knows how to go fast. He aims to stay in VR46 and if he has a good championship, I believe he will stay there. If he doesn’t have a good championship, it becomes tough“.
