5″ for Hamilton at Spa

Last Sunday during the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was penalized with 5″ to be served at the pit stop for the first-lap contact with George Russell.
The Ferrari driver was deemed totally guilty of the incident, but did not receive a 10″ penalty due to two mitigating circumstances: he had tried to avoid the collision and had been a victim of a ‘snap’ just before the contact.

The Hungaroring meeting

In recent days it had emerged that Formula 1 drivers would meet the FIA during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend to discuss guidelines on overtakes and contacts, given recent inconsistencies that have caused some confusion.

Sky Sports Uk asked Lewis Hamilton about the meeting with the Federation, but the Briton seemed totally unaware: “I know nothing about it. I really don’t know anything about it. The meeting? I try to avoid those things. I’m not going to be there, I won’t be there. I know nothing apart from the usual drivers’ briefing.”

Lewis just wants to move on

Hamilton did not want to dwell on what happened: “It’s not something I’ve thought about coming into this weekend. I’m sure they’ll look at it and assess the situation, and I believe the FIA is doing its best to try and be consistent. Obviously, you don’t always achieve that consistency. I’m no longer thinking about last weekend, it happened and I want to move on”.
