This weekend, Spain will be a true ‘Capital’ of motorsport, with two internationally significant championships taking place in the nation: in addition to the MotoGP Grand Prix at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, the WRC will return to the Canary Islands two weeks after the last event in Croatia.

New routes

Although it has been a great classic of the European championship, this rally entered the WRC calendar for the first time only last season (and will remain there until 2029), with Kalle Rovanperä’s victory. This year’s event, however, will feature changes to the route compared to 2025, due to the recent storm in March that forced the organizers to intervene because of some landslides and floods. In addition to the return of a home idol like Dani Sordo, Takamoto Katsuta will be present in Spain as the world leader, with the Japanese Toyota driver coming off two consecutive victories.

In this round, Thierry Neuville will also try to make amends, having been in the lead until the Power Stage in the last Croatian event but making a sensational error at the crucial moment, with damage to his Hyundai inevitably forcing him to retire. The Canary Islands Rally will therefore present many interesting facts, with the first stage expected on Thursday, April 23. This, like all the others scheduled, will be broadcast live and streamed on Rally.tv, with five of them also available on Sky Sport e NOW.
