The first free practice sessions scheduled tomorrow at the Balaton Park circuit in Hungary could mark the start of a historic weekend for Nicolò Bulega‘s career, close to setting new records in Superbike. Achievements that, despite the unbeaten streak in this early phase of the championship, are by no means guaranteed for the world leader, especially after his recent statements.

Attention to the track
2nd in Race 1 and Race 2 last year, in addition to a disappointing 13th place in the Superpole Race due to a wrong tire choice, the Emilian rider admitted that the Hungarian track is not one of his favorites: “Although it is not an ideal circuit for my riding style, last year I still managed to secure second place in both Race 1 and Race 2. The goal, as always, is to be competitive from the first free practice on Friday morning. The record of 14 consecutive wins? I’m not thinking about it. If it comes, it will be because we did our job well in Race 1.”

Lecuona’s nightmare
Who has even worse memories of this track, included in the calendar for the first time in SBK history just last year, is Bulega’s current teammate: Iker Lecuona. The Spaniard, Honda rider in 2025, suffered a fracture of the ulna and radius of the left arm following a maneuver by Andrea Iannone in Race 1. Since the injury, Lecuona stayed in the pits for the rest of the season: “I certainly can’t say I have good memories of this circuit. Last year’s accident came at a very delicate moment for me during the season. However, I feel lucky to be here now and able to think about the recent past after securing 6 consecutive second places. We are making progress race after race and I believe we can be very competitive also at Balaton Park.”
