Antonelli outclasses Russell, Verstappen gloats
Kimi Antonelli takes the stage in Monte Carlo and snatches his fourth pole position of the season. The young Mercedes driver conquers an extraordinary pole position where pure talent and immense self-confidence, almost bordering on reckless madness, are needed. With an impeccable lap, Antonelli precedes Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who together boast 11 world titles. But what is most impressive is not Antonelli’s already established qualities, but rather the gap he inflicts on George Russell.

The Brit leaves Saturday in Monte Carlo with shattered bones: sixth place and a four-tenth gap from his teammate; numbers that were unthinkable at the start of the season. Or rather, they were predictable, but in favor of Russell. Instead, the Brit can no longer react to Antonelli’s fury, and Verstappen doesn’t miss an opportunity to needle him.

“Kimi is doing exactly what he needs to, especially in comparison with his teammate. I think George is scratching his head a bit right now…“, this was the comment from the four-time world champion.

Verstappen and Russell, notoriously, are not great friends, and indeed have argued several times following some on-track duels. If the World Championship turns out to be an all-Mercedes internal duel, there’s no doubt who Super Max will be rooting for, as he respects Antonelli a lot.
