BMW M, 30 new models within the next thirty months

BMW M is preparing for an unprecedented offensive with a plan that includes 30 new models in the next thirty months, between new cars and restylings, thermal and electric. The program kicks off with the iX3, the first SUV of the Neue Klasse family, which will be launched on the market next March and, already within the year, will have its M variant. In 2027 the first electric M3 will arrive, designed with a control unit capable of distributing torque in a more refined way to improve driving dynamics. But the model will not immediately abandon combustion engines, which will continue to accompany it until the end of the decade.

BMW M is about to expand the range

The plan also includes the introduction of CS versions in the 2028-2029 biennium and the electric M4 Coupé. This technological transformation brings with it controversial choices: among the most discussed, according to today’s Il Sole 24 Ore, is the abandonment of manual gearboxes, which will be set aside despite about 40% of M users still declaring a clear preference for the lever and direct management compared to faster and more efficient automatics. The decision reflects the priority placed by BMW on performance, efficiency, and electronic control, but risks alienating a passionate segment of the customer base.

Space also for a super off-roader

Looking beyond 2029, the German company is planning an even more ambitious project: a “super off-roader” hard and pure, never seen before in the range. It will be destined to gradually replace the XM, whose production will continue until 2028 in Spartanburg, USA. Unlike current X models, this vehicle will be designed to offer extreme off-road capabilities without sacrificing the dynamics and comfort typical of the brand. Initially this new flagship model of the M family will be offered with thermal engines, from the classic straight-six to the V8, while towards the end of the decade a full-electric variant will also arrive.
