BMW i7, two weeks until the debut of the restyling

BMW will present the updated i7 at the Beijing Auto Show on April 22nd, offering a revised exterior appearance and substantial improvements to its electric powertrain. The restyling will bring the German manufacturer’s flagship sedan closer to the latest models in the Neue Klasse family, such as the iX3 and i3, while maintaining an overall more conservative character compared to the latter. The most evident change will be the front end, made simpler and cleaner, with a more squared and prominent grille accompanied by expanded LED daytime running lights.

BMW i7 restyling: coming soon

Under the body, the main innovation concerns the battery. The i7 will indeed adopt the cylindrical cells introduced with the Neue Klasse, but integrated into the same housing as the current generation. A technical choice that promises an increase in energy density of about 20%, which should translate into a similar increase in range across the different trims. To provide a comparison, the current i7 in its most high-performance version reaches up to 620 km on a single charge: with the new cells, it is reasonable to expect a significant step forward on this front.

Improved range and more

The development of the high-voltage system is the result of a collaboration with Rimac Technology. In this sense, Mate Rimac emphasized how the revision of the electrical components will bring significant improvements in terms of energy, range, and charging performance. The i7 update is part of a broader plan linked to the launch of the Neue Klasse, which already includes the introduction of the new iX3 and i3 and anticipates updated versions of the i7 and 7 Series, a 3 Series revised in its combustion engines, the new electric iX5, and the restyling of the 5 Series and i5.
