Weekend uphill
The Sprint of Marco Bezzecchi in Barcelona ended with a ninth place at the finish. A disappointing result that does not allow him to take advantage of the fall of his teammate Jorge Martin: Bez, in fact, remains the championship leader with this placement but gains only one point on the Spaniard. “Unfortunately today was a tough day, I never really felt good and even though at the start of the Sprint I gained a few positions, I then lost them quite quickly. I wasn’t accelerating, I couldn’t brake hard, I basically couldn’t do anything fast. Yesterday afternoon was my best session – explained Bezzecchi – but from then on I couldn’t get the same feelings on the bike anymore and I don’t know why. This morning I struggled, I also tried the medium tire but it was nothing special; then today in the Sprint I started well, I put myself there and I knew it wouldn’t be possible to make the podium so I didn’t go crazy at the start. I recovered a few positions, passed Morbidelli and was behind Zarco in sixth place. At that point the plan was to catch Zarco, but instead he got away from me and those behind caught me“.
The post-race outburst
Finally, Bezzecchi explained an outburst caught by the cameras immediately after the Sprint, in which the rider from Rimini seemed to complain about the tires. However, with a clear mind and honesty, Bezzecchi explained that moment was simply a way to vent frustration over a difficult race: “Those are things you say in the heat of the moment because you’re nervous when you get off the bike and you want to break everything when you’re going slow. The first thing I could blame was that but actually I wouldn’t know. It’s true that I didn’t have great confidence either on entry or on acceleration but before saying anything I want to check the data and understand if maybe I did something wrong in my riding. It didn’t seem to me that I overheated everything too much, but I couldn’t be fast“, he concluded.
