Bearman: “I don't know if we deserved points, but I gladly accept them”

The comeback to the points zone

For the first time since the Chinese GP, Oliver Bearman returned to the points zone in the last Canadian GP. A placement that could have seemed actually difficult to achieve for the British Haas driver, considering the start from the sixteenth spot on the grid. However, helped also by others’ retirements and McLaren’s red-pencil mistake, which decided to mount intermediate tires at the start, Bearman climbed up to the 10th place final.

Deserved point?

A placement that, regardless of the point obtained, does not fully satisfy the Englishman, also due to the mistake made by the team during the pit stop on lap 31 which caused a loss of time: I don’t know if we deserved the points based on our performance, but we gladly accept them, since there were weekends when we deserved them and got nothing – he commented – in general, it was a really challenging weekend for us, but scoring points is positive. We could have done more, but we had a slow pit stop, so we need to understand why it happened. The track was very slippery and difficult, and I chose to start on used soft tires because I thought they would help me in the first lap, but in the end we did three more formation laps, so I don’t know if I gained much advantage. I don’t think we leave with a big smile on our face, but we have a week before we have to come back strong in Monaco.”

Brake problems

Even more disappointed is teammate Esteban Ocon, never in the points this championship except for Suzuka. The Frenchman, starting from 17th place, finished in 14th position at the end of a race affected by several problems: “It was tough, to say the least. There was something wrong with braking and I kept locking the wheels, so we need to investigate the issue. We mounted the new car setup after qualifying, so I only did two real laps, but as a team we will go back and study everything.”
