What the Aston Martin team principal said
The Australian GP will essentially be a test for Aston Martin, whose goal is to hunt for the source of the vibrations that knocked out the power units – particularly the battery – and which also put the drivers in critical conditions, at least according to what was stated by Adrian Newey.
“Those vibrations are transmitted to the drivers’ fingers – Newey said in the press conference – Alonso thinks he cannot do more than 25 laps in a row before risking permanent damage to his hands. Lance thinks he cannot do more than 15 laps before reaching that limit. I think there is no point in not being open and honest.”
“I believe the car has enormous development potential – he added – obviously it will take time to fully extract this potential. We are not where we would like to be, but we have the potential to progress.”

Honda HRC President Koji Watanabe also released an official statement to manage expectations ahead of a ‘laboratory’ weekend for Aston Martin-Honda: “Based on extensive dynamic bench testing, we will introduce what we believe to be the most effective solutions at this stage. Only when the car is on track will we be able to understand if the countermeasures are effective. Therefore, some limitations on the operation of the power unit will be applied this week.”
