The Hungarian updates
There was great curiosity on the eve of the Hungarian GP regarding the performance of Aston Martin in Budapest, a track where the update package brought by Adrian Newey made its debut in an attempt to improve the performance of the AMR26s, awaiting the Honda engine upgrade scheduled for the next event in Zandvoort. Until the Hungaroring, in fact, the Silverstone team had only scored one point with Fernando Alonso in Monaco, consistently occupying the last positions in the standings.

The improvements
Despite finishing outside the points zone, actual progress of the car was seen at the Hungaroring, as evidenced by the 13th place for Lance Stroll. For the Canadian, in fact, it was his best seasonal result, with the first step forward made by the team making the 27-year-old confident awaiting the next races: “Today I felt good in the car and it was nice to be back racing. We are not yet where we want to be, so there is still work to do, but we are now in contention. The more laps we do with this package, the more performance we will be able to unlock. It’s the most encouraging update we’ve had in a long time and we have more coming for Zandvoort, so it’s good to see we’re heading in the right direction.”

A very particular result not only from the point of view of the car’s performance: excluding his teammate’s retirements, Stroll in fact finished ahead of Fernando Alonso for the first time this season. The Spaniard, 14th at the finish line, had already expressed positive comments after qualifying (finished for the first time in Q2), also showing his satisfaction at the end of the race: “It was a good step forward for us this weekend, so it’s a solid foundation on which to build our return after the summer break. The car performed well in the race and we were able to fight with those around us, which was great after some difficult weekends. We will continue to push and see how things go in Zandvoort, especially with the Honda update.”
