Aston Martin still at zero
“We will not have improvements until summer“: Fernando Alonso’s words sound like a sentence at Aston Martin and suggest a season as extras, at least in the first part. Lawrence Stroll’s team had openly declared the ambition to make a big leap forward in 2026, aiming to become a stable top team in Formula 1. Despite the Canadian’s efforts – among structures, choice of partners, and key figures in the technical department – the hoped-for results have not arrived. On the contrary, disastrous ones have come, with Honda far behind all other power unit suppliers and a car that evidently has shortcomings also in terms of aerodynamics.

The AMR26, however, will not undergo major changes in the coming months. What Alonso anticipated is explained by the track operations chief Mike Krack, who believes that before making developments, 100% must be extracted from the available package.
Krack’s words
“We need to recognize what the strategy and plan are. Our work on track is to get the most out of what we have. I think it can be safely said that we are not at the maximum in everything. We have a lot to get from this package, and it is important to keep everyone motivated to work on it, then wait for the next steps“, these are Krack’s words, which closely echo Honda’s typical calmness, the power unit supplier. “I will not get involved in the debate whether developments will arrive at the next race, the one after, or another one, but I think we have shown to have had many problems at the start of the season, extraordinary problems, and that the gap to close is big, so the solution does not come overnight“.

“In Miami the car behaved normally, we have had progress in terms of reliability, vibration reduction, and drivability improvement. So far we have seen quite significant improvements and we must continue on this path“, he concluded.
