The crisis continues
If anyone expected that the forced F1 break of over a month could help the Aston Martin-Honda team to at least partially close the huge gap that separates the Silverstone team from the rest of the starting grid, they are destined to be disappointed. The English team arrived in Miami without any declared updates on the AMR26 and for the first half hour of the extra-long FP1 session (90 minutes instead of the traditional 60) the cars of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso did not go out on track.
The reason, as reported by Aston Martin itself, was a “power issue (power issue is the term used) inside the garage“. After about 30 minutes of waiting, first Alonso and then Stroll finally completed their first fast lap, which was over four and a half seconds slower than the best performance at that moment, set by Kimi Antonelli. So the first American weekend of the season also promises to be extremely difficult for the team led by Adrian Newey.
