The report of FP1 in Miami
The first free practice session after five weeks of break and with the cars revolutionized by updates – moreover in a Sprint weekend – gave quite a few surprises. Certainly, it is only Friday, but indeed a reshuffling of the cards seems to be happening. The best time was set by the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, who gave gaps far from negligible to the competition, with Max Verstappen second about three tenths behind and Oscar Piastri third over four tenths. A demonstration at least of a very fast adaptation of the Monegasque to the Florida track, considering that his teammate Lewis Hamilton (fourth) took a gap of as much as 467 thousandths.
Missing, in this top-4, is the team dominating the first three races: Mercedes. The silver arrows struggled quite a bit in this session, with the World Championship leader Antonelli fifth over seven tenths behind Leclerc and George Russell sixth behind him. The Italian also suffered some technical problems with his W17 that forced him to end the session slightly early. Completing the top-10 are the reigning world champion Lando Norris, who so far appeared quite far from the performances of teammate Piastri, Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar and Carlos Sainz. The black crisis of Aston Martin continues. Tonight at 22:30 it will get serious with the Sprint Qualifying.

The weekend schedule
F1 finally returns to the track after more than a month of break and does so in one of the most glamorous locations on the entire calendar: Miami. The Florida event will be a Sprint weekend, so after FP1 the Sprint Qualifying will already take place, scheduled today at 22:30. Saturday will then be a ‘full’ day with the Sprint race at 18:00 and the GP qualifying at 22:00. Sunday, weather permitting, the race is scheduled for 22:00. Watch out for possible ‘advances’ in case the storm risk is confirmed.
