No reverential fear
The Canada Sprint was won by George Russell, but the main protagonist of the short race in Montreal was – for better or worse – Kimi Antonelli. The extreme aggressiveness in trying to overtake his teammate cost the Bolognese a world championship point, but #12 also showed in this way that he has no reverential fear towards Russell. His post-race statements given to the microphones of Sky Sport F1 confirm this.

“I went out on track to win and above all I knew I had the pace. I had that opportunity there and I took it. I think I was quite alongside, I wasn’t behind, so we were almost wheel to wheel. I would have taken the corner – Antonelli then added, referring to his off-track at Turn 2 – but honestly I felt he touched me, I also saw that he widened. Then there was the contact and I went off”.

Mistake at Turn 8
Instead, Antonelli admitted fault for the other incident that occurred during the fifth lap, at Turn 8: “My mistake was at 8 trying to go inside – admitted the Bolognese – there I hit a huge bump. I lost the car on the straight and then I couldn’t brake and went straight on. I think I also damaged the floor a bit afterwards, so it wasn’t ideal. But certainly in those moments it’s hard to stay calm because there are a lot of emotions. Now I reset and focus on qualifying”.
