Antonelli flies
In 14 days Kimi Antonelli has achieved much of what drivers have always dreamed of, and often never realized: first pole position, first victory, first time leading the World Championship, with precocity records sometimes broken. This boy from Casalecchio di Reno has suddenly become the main attraction of the paddock: he grew wings quickly but must prove he can fly. In other words, he must withstand the pressure that 12 months ago put him to a severe test.

It is precisely the sporting struggles, mistakes, and even some healthy tears that helped shape the focused and sharp Antonelli of the first three events of 2026. Now comes Miami, a track that in 2025 saw him start in front for the first time: it was a Sprint, but also a warning to those watching about the talent of the Bolognese. He now sets his sights on the Florida weekend thinking only about improving himself and not about the internal rivalry with George Russell, who has slipped to -9 in the standings.
Antonelli’s words
“I’m not worried about the rivalry with George. I just want to focus on myself, trying to do everything the right way in terms of procedures, starts, and driving,” said the 19-year-old. “I know how strong George is, and it will definitely be very tough. Also, I think Ferrari and McLaren will get closer and closer, so it will be important to stay at the top and keep raising the bar. But at the moment I’m not worried about it, I’ll just try to make the most of the break and understand how I can improve.”

“I made a big step forward compared to 2025, for sure. Last year I went through tough moments, and it taught me much more than I expected,” he added. “I still have a lot of work to do, but I definitely feel more in control of the situation. The car helps me, I will try to be ready because it’s one of those opportunities that don’t come every day.”
