Antonelli wonderful in Monaco
Kimi Antonelli is an amazing protagonist on the most important Saturday of the F1 World Championship, that of Monte Carlo, where historically a good portion of the GP victory is awarded. The Bolognese driver obtains the second Italian pole position in the streets of the Principality (after Jarno Trulli’s in 2004) thanks to a fantastic lap, with which he puts Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton behind him. These are 11 world titles that will put pressure on this boy’s shoulders. But they seem much broader than his 19 years let on.
After his fourth pole of the season, Antonelli lets go and talks about a “special lap”. It must be, if it’s worth a pole position in Monte Carlo. A pole that seemed inaccessible until a few hours ago, but Mercedes’ work allowed Kimi to have much more confidence in the W17, especially during braking.
Antonelli’s words
“It’s never easy to pull out the last two or three tenths, especially with a Max like that and a Ferrari so strong all weekend. I know who’s behind me and they will certainly push me to the limit, putting pressure on me,” commented the Bolognese driver.

“There’s still something that can be improved, but every time I gain more confidence with the car and today was a great day, I’m really happy. It’s one of those laps where you manage to put everything together and it was a truly special lap,” he added to Sky Sport F1. “It was definitely an error-free lap, where I managed to put everything together, I didn’t let the car slide too much. It was clean, I took the right risks, without overdoing it, and that certainly helped me get pole. It was also surprising, because yesterday I was struggling. I don’t hide that I was a bit worried, especially after FP2. But this morning, from the first lap, the car seemed to come back to life. We completely changed the setup and the car certainly gave me much more confidence and allowed me to push. It wasn’t easy to drive yet, but we certainly made a big step forward”.
