Yet, waiting for the Dutch GP, the two-time world champion Spaniard gave no answer, instead emphasizing that his priority is to focus on the Zandvoort weekend.

The fact remains that, regardless of what his choice will be, it will not depend on the competitiveness level of Aston Martin or Honda engines, as confirmed in the meeting with the media: “I feel fast, I feel motivated, but honestly I haven’t thought about my future until I got here – Alonso, whose contract with the Silverstone team is expiring, said – my mind is completely focused on this weekend, not the future. I understand that attention may be on the future, but it is not my main priority right now.”
Adrenaline is not lacking
For the 45-year-old, the final decision will be based more on a personal aspect than purely a sporting one, as he confirmed: “The decision will depend on my head – he continued – I have said it many times: the regulations are what they are. They are not the best and most fun cars to drive, but this is still my life, and Formula 1 will always be my life. My heart is here. I will stay with this team, in one role or another, long term. So it’s not about me or who will drive next year, or if I will drive next year or in three years. The decision is up to Lawrence Stroll and Adrian Newey, and if the team needs me as a driver, I will consider it and be happy. If I can be more useful in another role, I will consider it and still be happy. But I need to drive something, that’s for sure – he added – I need to race, I need to feel the adrenaline. I have other challenges in mind, as I have said many times; to one day win the Dakar, try again the Indianapolis 500 or whatever else awaits me. Winning the third World Championship in Formula 1 that would obviously be the biggest dream. Is it possible? I don’t know how long it will take to achieve this goal with this team. If it takes a long time, maybe I won’t be behind the wheel anymore, but it’s all in my head.”

Contract expiring
No exact date regarding a possible announcement, although the first signs have not been missing: “I don’t have an exact date. I just came back from vacation, so we’ll see in the next days, weeks or months. We’ll see. I know Lawrence will come this weekend, so I will have lunch or coffee with him. I will also have to go early to the factory to do the Madrid simulator, so maybe if Lawrence or Adrian are there, I will also sit with them. So maybe in the next few weeks“.
