Alonso pushes away retirement thoughts
Time passes for everyone, but for Fernando Alonso a little more slowly. In two and a half months, the two-time world champion will become the 47th driver in history to race in a Formula 1 GP at 45 years old. And he will probably do it fighting in the dust, in a slow Aston Martin, which at the moment can only hope not to be the last force on the track.

The lack of competitiveness of the Silverstone team, undoubtedly the biggest disappointment of the 2026 World Championship, would demotivate almost everyone. The almost is however mandatory, because we are talking about Alonso. Nando, at the moment, has not thought about retirement at the end of the season. And he certainly does not want to give up in the face of Aston Martin’s difficulties, launching himself into a new challenge, that of continuing to race. Also because since the end of March Alonso has one more fan: his name is Leonard, and dad Fernando will do everything so that his son can see him race.
Alonso’s words
“At the moment I have not stopped to think about this. I have never thought about it deeply and I have to talk about it with my family too. I have to first talk to the people I care about and decide what to do next year. I am very calm about it. If I continue to race, I think it will be a better season than this one, especially considering the project in its second year. Otherwise, I know I will participate in other categories“, these are Alonso’s words in Miami. “I am open to everything. Probably I will not sit down with the team to make a definitive decision before the summer break. We also have to evaluate the car’s improvements and the prospects for next year“.

Regarding the arrival of little Leonard, Alonso added: “I have some reflections, I cannot deny it. It changes the way you see life. I want to make sure he sees me race. If I raced for another one or two years, would he then have some memories or some ability to understand what happens in the paddock? I would not want to stop before he arrives in the paddock, or gets into my car“.
