Podium not so far
Once again Pedro Acosta put on a show on the track. The Murcian finished fourth in the Aragon Sprint, managing once again to bring his KTM into contention with the Ducatis and Aprilias, where the Austrian bike should not be able to reach in terms of performance level. Acosta finished the short MotorLand race just six tenths away from the last step of the podium, occupied by Marco Bezzecchi. However, his race was influenced by the very long duel with the other Aprilia, that of Jorge Martin.
“Me on the podium if there hadn’t been the duel with Jorge? I think the podium was too optimistic a result – admitted Acosta, in the traditional post-race interview given to Sky Sport MotoGP – but that I could be closer to Bez at the end, that is for sure. But I think we had a good race: we know that in qualifying and also in the Sprint race we usually struggle, but today it didn’t go too badly. For this we must be satisfied“.

After the many reliability problems faced in the first half of the season, KTM has received the OK from the other manufacturers to break the seals and intervene on its engine. However, Acosta explained that here in Aragon the Austrian manufacturer focused mainly on making sure there were no other significant problems: “In this race we did not come with the idea of improving performance [of the engine] – Acosta explained again – we just wanted to check that everything was working well and that there were no additional problems. Later, as the races go by, we will see if we can find a bit more performance from the engine, but at the moment everything is working well”, he concluded.
