Mercedes has defined it as the sportiest C-Class ever. And indeed, it has plenty of sportiness. But also comfort, agility, elegance. And environmental attention. We are talking about the new 100% electric Mercedes C-Class, which we tested on the streets of Helsinki finding several strengths. First of all regarding the design: a bold look, characterized by its coupe silhouette, a GT-style rear, and an iconic grille. All elements that make this new C-Class immediately recognizable.

The new electric Mercedes C-Class
Even the interior leaves nothing to chance. Mercedes set a goal: to elevate the cabin to a completely new level, establishing a new benchmark for premium quality and comfort. Goal achieved: fluid shapes steal the show, refined materials of the highest quality dominate, including vegan-certified interiors. There are also precisely crafted details like the “Twisted Diamond” pattern in Nappa leather. The acoustic comfort is special, the driving silence amazes. Likewise, the comfort of those on board is maximized thanks also to the new high-end electric seats, complete with lumbar support, massage, ventilation, and 4D audio.
Comfort of all kinds
Comfort that is also climatic. In fact, in the new electric C-Class, the cabin heats up twice as fast compared to models with conventional engines. And thanks to the multi-source heat pump, it requires about half the energy. On board the new battery sedan from the Star brand, it really feels like looking at the stars. In fact, it is exactly like that: in the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof a total of 162 stars light up, taking on the color of the individually selected ambient lighting. And then there is the technology, materialized in the new 39.1″ MBUX Hyperscreen. It sets new standards and makes the infotainment experience even more intuitive and spectacular.

Almost 800 km of range
Also from a mechanical and energy efficiency point of view, this model really has nothing to envy to its rivals. The new electric C-Class reaches up to 762 kilometers of range in the WLTP cycle, thanks to advanced aerodynamics and innovations such as the heat pump and the one-box braking system with a recovery power of up to 300 kW. But above all thanks to the 800-volt technology and a new battery with 94 kWh of usable energy, which allow recovering up to 325 kilometers in just 10 minutes. Important news: the new electric C-Class is also prepared for bidirectional charging, turning into a mobile energy storage unit.

Spaciousness and safety in Mercedes style
Habitability and spaciousness are not optional. The cargo space is significant, thanks to the generous cabin, the modular trunk of 470 liters, and a frunk of 101 liters. Special mention for the towing capacity up to 1.8 tons and for the latest generation driving assistance systems. A versatile and safe car then, as we were able to verify through a series of safety tests passed with flying colors (emergency braking, traffic light detection, etc.).

Excellent driving dynamics
Safety that, as mentioned, does not affect driving dynamics. The car is in fact extremely agile in corners and responsive in all accelerations, thanks to a rear steering axle up to 4.5 degrees, capable of reducing the turning diameter to 11.2 meters, and AIRMATIC pneumatic suspensions with predictive damping based on Car‑to‑X. Moreover, with 2,962 millimeters, it boasts a wheelbase 97 millimeters longer than the C-Class sedan with thermal engines.

Top-of-the-line version at launch
At market launch, customers can count on the most powerful model: C 400 4MATIC electric with 360 kW. The sporty top of the range accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and offers a range of up to 762 kilometers. According to Mercedes estimates, the new electric C-Class covers well over 1,000 kilometers with just one short charging stop.

But in the future Mercedes…
At the moment it is the only version offered. But only for now: the Star brand has already announced that next year further models with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive and different battery variants will follow. Among these, a rear-wheel drive model stands out with a predicted range of about 800 kilometers. Today, there are four trims available in Italy: ADVANCED, ADVANCED PLUS, PREMIUM, and PREMIUM PLUS. Prices start from 70,269 euros.
