Ferrari off the podium in Hungary
From Friday’s one-two to a GP off the podium: what should have been a triumphant weekend for Ferrari turned into one of regret for a victory that was within reach considering the pace of the SF-26.
The outcome of the Hungarian GP, however, is merciless towards Ferrari, the only top team not to have reached the podium unlike McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur speaking to Sky did not hide his disappointment: “When you get a one-two on Friday, you expect a different result – said Vasseur – but everything went wrong. We were the only ones to be overtaken on track by Verstappen and we also received penalties.”
“Running in clean air changes everything, just look at what Norris managed – added Vasseur – our pace was good, but we couldn’t exploit it. The level is so high and we are all so close that we need to minimize errors and we didn’t do that.”
