The overtake of the day
The masterpiece maneuver with which Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton in the Hungarian GP shortly after both had made their first pit stop – a move that later proved decisive for the entire course of the GP – inevitably dominated discussions among the drivers in the post-podium area.
When the replay of the phenomenal maneuver carried out by the four-time world champion on his ‘historic’ rival appeared on the TV screen in the room where the top three finishers of the Budapest race were relaxing, Antonelli’s and Norris’s faces turned into a mask of astonishment.
Antonelli’s ‘historic’ memory
The Italian, increasingly the World Championship leader after today’s third position, let out an “Oh my God!” which needs no translation. Then, laughing, Antonelli showed a good historical memory by recalling another precedent between the two champions, in the exact same corner, which however had ended very differently: “It was like in 2024!“, Kimi observed. The reference is to a similar maneuver that Verstappen attempted on Hamilton in turn 1 in the Hungarian GP two years ago, which, however, ended very badly, with contact between the two and numerous post-race controversies.

Verstappen, with great simplicity, addressing Norris and Antonelli, explained that what he seized in the duel with Hamilton “Was my only chance“. Certainly, the overtake by Red Bull’s #3 is strongly poised to become one of the best overtakes of the entire 2026, not just in F1.
