The papaya team continues to push
McLaren in Hungary, Budapest, dominated the 2024 edition and in 2025 managed to rectify a situation that seemed to have become quite complicated, with Charles Leclerc surprisingly on pole and then leading the race for two-thirds of the race, only to collapse in the final stages.
The Woking team, with the exception of the great competitiveness shown during the Miami weekend, has not yet managed to consistently be on top in 2026. This weekend in Hungary, a new package of updates will be introduced in an attempt to close what Andrea Stella has called a ‘three-month’ gap compared to the competition in terms of roadmap and ‘maturity’ of the 2026 technical project.

At the Hungaroring, McLaren will therefore introduce an important update package for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The package mainly includes a new floor and other aerodynamic elements, which will be evaluated during the free practice sessions.
Furthermore, exclusively during the first free practice session, the team will test an evolved version of the experimental rear wing – the ‘Macarena’ wing – which was supposed to be tested on Friday of the Austrian Grand Prix. At the moment, there are no plans for the definitive introduction of this component either for the current race or for the subsequent one in the Netherlands. Therefore, McLaren plans to debut the Macarena wing in a race no earlier than the Italian GP at Monza.
