Incident just before Stavelot
FP2 at Spa-Francorchamps ended about 15 minutes early for Pierre Gasly. The Alpine driver was involved in a serious accident, fortunately without physical consequences for him, during the final phase of the session when most drivers were focusing on race pace simulation.

The French #10 lost control of the car in corner 13 – apparently due to a driving error, but it will be up to the Alpine team to investigate the crash dynamics – and ended up in the gravel, unable to avoid the impact with the barriers, which are very close to the track at that point. The collision destroyed the rear end of the A526 and also damaged the barriers, flooding the track with debris.
Despite the great work of the marshals to clean the track, the red flag that followed Gasly’s accident lasted quite a while and left only a couple of minutes for the drivers to complete their FP2 session. An unexpected event that could have some repercussions for the teams ahead of the crucial day tomorrow, when the battle for pole position will take place.
