The recent outbreak of conflict in the Middle East and the subsequent closure of airspace in the same region have raised significant concerns ahead of the first round of the 2026 season, namely the Qatar 1812 km. This very nation was hit by several bombings over the last weekend, as happened in other countries like neighboring Bahrain, where the Pirelli F1 tests were cancelled.

The schedule
The weekend that will inaugurate the championship is scheduled to take place from March 26 to 28, with the two-day Prologue test set even earlier, in this case on March 22 and 23. With the intensification of attacks in recent hours, Le Mans Endurance Management and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest have however published an official statement in which they specified their intention to provide constant clarity on the situation.

“The FIA WEC is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East, with a rigorous evaluation process underway for several weeks. The safety of our competitors, staff, and fans remains our top priority. Consequently, the FIA WEC management is in constant and direct communication with the relevant authorities in Qatar. The FIA WEC is holding regular meetings with the Qatari authorities regarding the upcoming Prologue and Qatar 1812 km events, scheduled for March 22-23 and March 26-28 respectively. We will continue to evaluate the situation daily. Further updates will be communicated if necessary”
