Pedro Acosta may be the Tiburón, but the true shark of MotoGP is still Marc Marquez. On the day Jorge Martin caused a strike at the start, taking out Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Raul Fernandez, and Fermin Aldeguer, the world champion smelled blood and secured a crucial victory to get back in the running for the World Championship.

With a masterful and unrivaled performance (except for Acosta, who only resisted for half the race), Marquez secures his 100th victory in the Motorcycle World Championship and returns to success after nine months: there couldn’t have been better timing for the Spaniard, who now moves to -72 points behind Bezzecchi.

Despite the battle – beautiful, but lasting only two laps – with Acosta, Marquez had no problems, and from the 15th lap, he raced on his own. The KTM rider pushed hard at the start, grabbing the first position, but Marquez had more pace and waited for the right moment to get back close to his future teammate: Acosta still has to postpone his date with victory, but more than this is impossible to get from this KTM.

A good podium, certainly favored by the lack of competition, for Francesco Bagnaia. The two-time MotoGP world champion spent a solitary race, without the pace of the top two but with a rhythm that was more than sufficient for the podium. Fourth position for the always solid Ai Ogura, once again among the best in terms of pace, and important points for the Hondas of Luca Marini and Diogo Moreira (in P5 and P6 respectively). Also noteworthy is Iker Lecuona’s great return to MotoGP, finishing seventh ahead of Miller, Bastianini (hit with a long lap penalty), and Binder.

The next event

MotoGP returns to the track in two weeks with the Brno event. In Czechia, the action starts on Friday, June 19, at 10:45 AM with FP1, while Practice will begin at 3 PM; on Saturday, June 20, FP2 at 10:10 AM, followed by Qualifying, while the Sprint will start at 3 PM; on Sunday, June 21, the GP will kick off at 2 PM.
