Here's Audi: the Nuvolari emerges

Audi has unveiled the Nuvolari, its first true supercar with a high-performance hybrid powertrain. The name pays homage to Tazio Nuvolari, a legend of motorsport, and its ambitions are record-breaking: 1,001 hp (736 kW), a top speed exceeding 350 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. A powerhouse destined to become the most powerful and fastest model ever produced in the brand’s history. But that’s not all: the Nuvolari represents the first production vehicle to fully adopt Audi’s new design philosophy.

How it’s built

Taut lines, monolithic surfaces, and a mid-engine layout that gives the car a muscular and aggressive presence. The exterior is characterized by the new signature Titanium color, combined with carbon elements that emphasize its precise and functional forms. Almost all exterior panels are made of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) using Formula 1-derived prepreg autoclave technology.

Hybrid Powertrain

The heart of the Nuvolari is a high-performance hybrid system that combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of 800 hp (588 kW) and 730 Nm of torque, with a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm, with three axial-flux electric motors. Two front motors (110 kW each) and one rear motor complete the picture, for a combined output of 1,001 hp. The 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery also ensures a fully electric driving mode for short urban stretches.

The quattro predictive ride system takes all-wheel drive to a new level: advanced sensors and a predictive model of the vehicle’s state intervene in real-time to distribute torque longitudinally and laterally, integrating brakes, aerodynamics, and electric motors. Four driving modes (E-Hybrid, Balanced, Dynamic, Dynamic+) plus Track Mode allow the driver to adjust behavior from road to track.

Active Aerodynamics and Extreme Chassis

Active aerodynamics, developed with direct input from Audi Formula 1 drivers, is one of its strengths. The central element is the adaptive retractable rear wing, with three configurations: Closed (minimum drag), Low Downforce, and High Downforce. In the latter, the car generates over 400 kg of downforce. The Drag Reduction System (DRS), manually activatable from the steering wheel and directly inspired by F1, is also present.

The Audi Space Frame chassis with carbon exterior is an absolute novelty for the brand: maximum torsional rigidity and low weight, with components handcrafted using the highest level of artisanal processes. Forged center-lock wheels debut for the first time in Audi’s production range. The Ceramic Pro braking system is equally extreme: carbon discs derived from Formula 1, a brake-by-wire system with energy recovery up to 0.3 g, and an absorption capacity of 2.8 megawatts. Powerful and constant decelerations, without fading even after intense laps on the track.

Driver-Oriented Interior

The cockpit is minimalist and driver-centric: essential physical controls, digital displays organized according to an intuitive logic, and ultralight carbon seats with excellent lateral support. The dominant color is dark in the front (to aid concentration) while the rear area adopts the Shadow Dune tone. Homages to the past appear in chromatic accents inspired by the legendary Auto Union Type C of the 1930s.

The Strategy

«With the Nuvolari, we are accelerating technological progress,» stated Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of AUDI AG. «It demonstrates what is possible when you focus on technology, performance, and teamwork.» Rouven Mohr, CTO of Audi, added: «The entire team has demonstrated technical expertise, innovative strength, and dedication. We have rapidly transferred technologies from Formula 1 to a production vehicle.» Limited to just 499 units, the Audi Nuvolari positions itself as an exclusive hypercar capable of combining extreme performance, cutting-edge technology, and that visceral character that has always distinguished true supercars. Deliveries will begin in the first half of 2027: for the lucky few who manage to secure one, the wait will be long, but promises to be worth every second.
