George Russell achieved the best time in FP2 on Friday in Monza, starting in the best way a weekend that risks being crucial in the English driver’s season. To have realistic chances of fully getting back in the fight for the World Championship, the #63 Mercedes driver absolutely must win the Italian GP. Yet despite the satisfaction for the performances shown by the W17 in the ‘Temple of Speed’, Russell had fun playing hide and seek, pointing to others as favorites for the victory.

Ferrari team to beat
“For us it was a rather positive Friday – first acknowledged the former Williams driver – we completed a lot of work and seemed to have a good pace both on the single lap and on the long runs. After FP1 we made some changes that helped us, but we know we still have work to do tonight“.

“Ferrari appeared very competitive and still seems to be the team to beat – Russell then added, shifting the weight of the prediction towards Maranello – and then we also know how strong McLaren has been lately and I have no doubt that tomorrow they will be in the fight for the top positions. We cannot exclude Red Bull either. It is an encouraging start to the weekend, but we are still at the beginning. Let’s see what Saturday will bring us“, concluded the British driver.
