Aston Martin, what a disappointment
There is no doubt that at the start of the 2026 season, one of the most anticipated teams was Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll spared no expense to secure top technical figures like Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile and brought home the Honda power unit, protagonist of the winning cycle of Red Bull and Max Verstappen.
But more than a few things went wrong and incredibly Aston Martin after the first five races is constantly at the back of the starting grid and Alonso and Stroll have not done better than 17th in qualifying and 15th in the race. The lapping of the Aston Martins – when they reach the finish – is no longer even quoted by betting sites, so predictable it is.

How is Newey?
And one of the Aston Martin novelties for 2026 was supposed to be the role of team principal taken on by Adrian Newey. But the brilliant British designer has not been seen on track since last March 8 and rumors have spread about a possible health problem, which have not been confirmed by the team.
Franz Tost, former Toro Rosso team principal, addressed these topics in the podcast 15 Love – Der Business: “Adrian Newey joined Aston Martin very late. I believe he did not start before last April and for a project of this magnitude that is not ideal. There is still a lot to fix, but if his health allows it, he will be able to design a competitive car for 2027. I am convinced of it.”
Then all is quiet also about the team principal role, which was thought to be left by Newey: the rumors about Jonathan Wheatley have not yet materialized.
